Picture Perfect: SharePoint Image Renditions

Are you looking for a simple way for your end users to display images of a standard size? Look no more – Image Renditions in SharePoint 2013 is a quick and easy way to present images the way you want them every time.

One technical prerequisite – the blob cache must be enabled in your web application in order to use this feature. Assuming this is activated, let’s proceed!

First, visit your top level site and select site settings.

Under the look and feel section select Image Renditions.

You will now be directed to the Image Renditions feature. It looks a lot like a basic list.

To add a new rendition, select “Add New Item” and fill out this brief form. Three fields with one click of save and you are done!

You can see that you are successful when your item appears in the list.

Next, apply your image rendition. Navigate to the site that you wish to insert a photo. In this example, I’ve opted to insert a photo into a content editor web part.

On the ribbon, follow the prompts to insert a picture from SharePoint.

Select your image from your repository.

And insert it into the Content Editor web part.

Now select your image and navigate back to the ribbon and select “Pick Rendition.”

From the rendition options, select “Front Page Photo.”

And, ta da – here is your image with the standard rendition applied.

One quick look back ….Before

And …..After!

Picture perfect every time!
