SharePoint How-To: Add List or Library Content through Site Contents Function

SharePoint can be both visually beautiful and functional with the customization of a master page. With an increased emphasis on visual appeal, sometimes design will mandate that users update list or library content from within site contents rather than on a page itself.

To update list or library content when the typical “add new item” menus are not available follow these simple steps:

First, navigate to the gear in the upper right hand corner and select site contents,  or you can use short-cut key the gear in the upper right hand corner or you can use short-cut key ALT + 3 to expose the menu to select site contents.

Next, find the list you wish to update. In this example, it is announcements.


Select the Title “Announcements” to open the list.


Select “Add New Announcement” for the form to open. 


Add content to the announcement form and select save. Your content will now appear in the announcements list and on the page it is configured to display.
